1. What does the name mean?
The literal translation of Djam Karet is "Elastic Time, The Hour That Stretches."
2. How do you pronounce the name?
It is pronounced jam ka rãt.
3. How and from whom do I buy Djam Karet music?
Direct from the Artist - Straight from Us to You! Any item that is available has an "Add to Your Shopping Cart" button that will open another web browser that will take you in and out of the DK Store. You will receive your product in most cases within one week for domestic orders and 2 weeks for International Orders. In appreciation of your support, we try and keep our CD and shipping/handling prices as low as possible.
4. What Are The LTD Edition CDR’S?
Material and performances that are hand-picked by the band and manufactured ourselves for those who want to dig deeper into Djam Karet. These releases are not available in stores and mostly available through this web site and those of a few close long time supporters of the band. The first 2 releases have focused on past work by DK but future editions will explore more current sounds from the band.
5. What are the Beginner’s Guides?
Our self produced homage to the Beginner’s Guide to King Crimson double LP that we worshipped growing up! In both DK Beginner’s Guides you will find hand-picked tracks from our catalog of releases as well as some rarities culled from out of print compilations and live performances. We could spell it all out for you, but it’s much more fun if you discover them for yourself.
6. What are the Solo Releases?
Solo Releases put out by the various members of the band. Part of the DK sound is very evident in each of the members Solo Releases. You can preview them here.
7. Why don’t you come and play in [enter city here]?
It is very difficult and expensive for a band of our size to tour. All of us in Djam Karet have full time jobs, and in some cases families, outside of the music we make together. We have found in our almost 20 year history that our recorded works of music can travel much farther than we can as a band, so mostly we concentrate on making music and performing at festivals when we are fortunate to be invited.
8. Why don’t you list who is soloing when? I get confused as there are 2 guitarists, 2 keyboardists and now 2 bass players!
Djam Karet is very much about the group sound being much more than the sum of the individual parts and players. It is all about the music for us and we want you to focus on that and not the face/image behind the music.
9. Is Gayle a girl? And what’s up with those instrument heads?
Ah, no. But we have some funny letters over the years especially before we played festivals and continued to hide our faces behind those instrument heads!!!!
